“To get your ’machine’ started you can begin by adding several banner advertisements from exchange programs.”
STOP! Before you go and sign-up for dozens of banner exchange programs, take some time to prepare your own banners first. Remember basic principle number three: “Compelling banners will be clicked.” We usually prepare the concepts and text behind our banners while we are writing our content in the word processor. Then when we are done, we bring up our graphics tool and build the images.
STOP! Don’t sign-up for any programs until all of your pages are in place on the server and all links have been tested. Some programs will reject you if they feel your site is incomplete.
Banner exchanges all follow the same basic process. You put their code on your pages and they put your banner on other pages around the Web. Pay attention to the exchange rates…. 1:2 means for every 2 impressions you give them, you get 1 in return; 4:5 means for every 5 you give, you get 4. The closer you get to a 1:1, the better results you’ll achieve.
Remember earlier, we mentioned how we don’t plan on updating the content of our site that often? Well that’s true, but at the same time we are regularly changing the pages of our site. Why? Because, banner exchanges come and go frequently. At least three times a week we visit our own pages to make sure all exchanges are functioning properly. If one fails, we replace it as quickly as possible.
Below are some reliable banner exchanges with good exchange rates – we like ones that give you a bonus when someone clicks-thru from your site. After you have had a chance to register for these programs and install their code on your pages, come back and continue on to the next lesson.
