The best way to get things moving quickly is to pay for some advertising. If you’ve configured your pages as we described in our earlier lessons, all you need is to get a few thousand visitors in your first few months and then your machine will run by itself. Yes, you can do this without spending any money, but our experience has shown us it takes much longer to achieve profitability.
If you recall our lesson on the topic of value versus revenue, it usually requires a huge amount of value to derive a decent amount of revenue. Here’s where many sites try to mislead you. We’re telling you from experience, you need a significant number of visitors to make this worth your while.
Depending on the goal you have set for yourself, you should work backwards and calculate how many visitors you would need to succeed. Assume a conversion rate of 0.5% (that’s right, one-half of a percent) and figure out how many visitors it would take. If you want to get 1000 people signed up for a newsletter each month, you’ll need 200,000 visitors. If you want to make $500 month with a $0.25 commission-based affiliate, you’ll need 400,000 visitors.
Don’t be discouraged, these are very achievable numbers. Investing some money up-front will only help to speed up your success.
